New things to share

Hi all, we have been busy as usual with shows, work, and playing in the studio. I have been making some new little pixie nix dolls. We did a show at Mittagong last week and a lady ordered a witch doll. I made 2 so she could choose one and I would have a new one for our display. I also have been producing some hand painted bandanas and small canvases. I am adding some pictures of all here. I hope you enjoy seeing them. I love using the methods I learned from Sherrill Kahn.

Sherrill Kahn workshop Sydney

I just spent a fantastic week with a group of fantastic ladies in Sydney attending a 5 day workshop with Sherrill Kahn. She is a fantastic teacher who gave us nearly non-stop demo's. Please visit her site and see her fabulous work in fabrics and paper and if she is teaching anywhere near you don't miss the opportunity to experience her take on paint, printing, and rubber stamps! I can't wait to start applying some of her ideas to my work. go have a look at http://impressmenow.com/

Taliesin the Wizard!

Taliesin WON Best Original Doll at the Northern District Doll and Bear Show in Sydney, Australia

19th of November 2011

I have just completed a new doll and wanted to share here. I haven't had time to post here for some time. But felt it was time to warm up the Blog again with current works. Taliesin is about 18-20 inches tall. I sculpt the head, hands and feet out of Living Doll polymer clay. He is completely wired so can be posed. Many elements embellish Taliesin, silk, rabbit fur, leather, metal and glass. Mohair for his hair and beard. I am very pleased with how he has come along. I am hoping to get into a few more dolls this size in the near future.

We had a good show at Stanhope/Blacktown Doll Bear and Craft show. We felt the attendance was very low. But a nice group of vendors and the promoters are trying to make a good show. Just needs more advertisement and some incentives to get the public out to support the event. We won't go back next year though as they plan to move it back into February. TOO hot to be in an un-air conditioned venue for these two ole ducks!! We wish them well.

Also a quick note about the Maitland Prize Sculpture Show held recently. I entered "Time Explorer" (pictured here on the blog). I was awarded the Peoples Choice Award and won $250.00 very nice feather in the cap from the show! I also will have a picture in the local Maitland Mercury newspaper with the local Member and my sculpture. Very nice to have the recognition. Thank you all who voted for me.
We are off to America Friday, we have some great friends that are going to house sit for us and keep our doggies company! Thank you Lois, Chris and June!! We will be gone 4 weeks and return on the 8th of April.

Art Dolls with Living Doll clay

I have been exploring using the Sculpy Living Doll clay. I love it! It stays firm while you work with it, and it's not as easy to change the shape. I love the way it bakes, and the fact you can super cure it which makes it even stronger. It is so forgiving and easy to do fine details.
If your sculpting in Super Sculpy please consider trying Living Doll. Also check out Mark Dennis' blog. Madsculptor! He is a wealth of knowledge!! I read every post he made last year and so far this year as well. I will be checking every day for new words of wisdom!

I hope you enjoy my new pieces please leave a comment if you have a look! thanks for viewing!
Watch out for a new page on the Time Explorer, this is a mixed media paper mache piece I am working on. Picture soon to come!

New Creations

Well where does the time go! I have been very busy in the studio producing for our Christmas fairs, plus just out there doing the fairs. But thought I would share with you all some of my newest creations. These dolls are polymer clay attached to wire armature. I created the accessories/embellishments, all except the butter fly on Mr. Sleepy. I hope you enjoy. None of these dolls is over 9 inches in height. The birdcage is about 20 inches tall. I made the cage by wrapping wire with copper tape. Effective but I will have many scars on my fingers from cuts of the tape. Next time I will wear gloves!! Check out the additional page on Hey Birdie Birdie below in the blog on the right handside.
